Conductive garment
A conductive garment is clothing with built-in electrodes that can replace electrode pads. Medicare's TENS policy covers one only when specific conditions are met.
A conductive garment carries current from the TENS unit to the skin without separate electrode pads and lead wires. Medicare's TENS policy says a conductive garment used with a TENS unit is rarely reasonable and necessary, and it is covered only if all listed conditions are met. The treating practitioner must prescribe it. One listed reason is a documented medical condition, such as skin problems, that precludes the use of conventional electrodes. These terms are from the LCD revision effective January 1, 2024. Other plans differ. Your clinician decides whether a garment fits your care. Read the pads and supplies guide.
