Implanted medical device

An implanted medical device is a device placed inside or on the surface of the body. University of Iowa says not to use TENS with any implanted metallic or electronic device.

FDA says medical implants are devices or tissues that are placed inside or on the surface of the body. University of Iowa Health Care says not to use TENS if you have a cardiac pacemaker or defibrillator, a spinal cord stimulator, in-dwelling pumps or monitors, or any implanted metallic or electronic device. The NHS lists a pacemaker as a reason not to use TENS. If you have any implant, ask your doctor before using TENS and follow your clinician's and your device's instructions. See cardiac pacemaker and contraindication. Read the TENS unit safety guide.
