Medicare Part B
Medicare Part B is the part of Original Medicare that helps cover medically necessary outpatient services, preventive services and durable medical equipment ordered for use at home.
Medicare.gov says Part B helps cover two types of services: medically necessary services and preventive services. Its list of Part B coverage includes durable medical equipment. Medicare.gov also says that if you are in a Medicare Advantage Plan, your plan may have different rules. Medicare writes its TENS rules in an LCD. Part B does not guarantee that any single TENS unit is covered. The policy sets the criteria, and Medicare says it will deny TENS for chronic low back pain as not reasonable and necessary under the LCD revision effective January 1, 2024.
